November 11th — Pepero Day.
Every year in Korea, it’s a quiet little celebration of sweetness — friends, students, couples, and even co-workers exchanging Pepero sticks as small tokens of affection. It’s the kind of day that makes the air feel a little warmer, no matter how cold November has become.
It reminds me a little of Valentine’s Day — though perhaps not as intense. There aren’t candlelit dinners or elaborate surprises (at least, not usually), but there’s something endearing about the simplicity of it all. Convenience stores set up colorful displays stacked high with boxes of Pepero, chocolates, and even limited-edition sweets. People stop by on their way to work or school, picking out something small to give to someone they care about.
This morning, my students brought in boxes of Pepero to share with the class, their faces full of excitement. The sound of wrappers crinkling and laughter filling the room was the sweetest soundtrack. There’s something about these small, thoughtful gestures that always stay with me — maybe because my love language has always been gift-giving.
I’ve always believed that giving doesn’t have to be grand. Sometimes, it’s just a chocolate-covered stick, a handwritten note, or a quiet “thank you.” Little moments that say, I thought of you today.
So, today, I’m thinking of everyone who’s ever shared a small kindness with me — and hoping I can do the same in return.

11월 11일, 빼빼로데이.
한국에서는 매년 이 날이 되면 작은 달콤함으로 서로의 마음을 나누는 날이에요. 친구들, 학생들, 연인들, 직장 동료들까지 — 빼빼로 한 상자에 마음을 담아 주고받는 모습이 참 따뜻하게 느껴져요. 차가운 11월 공기 속에서도 이상하게 마음이 포근해지는 날이죠.
어쩐지 발렌타인데이와도 조금 비슷해요. 물론 그 정도로 큰 이벤트는 아니지만요. 하지만 편의점마다 알록달록한 진열대가 세워지고, 빼빼로와 초콜릿, 한정판 스낵들로 가득 차요. 사람들은 출근길이나 등굣길에 들러, 마음에 드는 과자를 하나 골라 누군가에게 건네요. 그 작은 손길이 참 사랑스럽죠.
오늘 아침엔 우리 반 아이들이 수업 시간에 나눠 먹을 빼빼로를 가지고 왔어요. 포장지를 여는 소리와 웃음소리가 교실을 가득 채웠죠. 저는 늘 이런 작고 다정한 순간들이 오래 기억에 남아요. 아마도 제 사랑의 언어가 ‘선물’이기 때문일 거예요.
선물은 꼭 크지 않아도 돼요. 때로는 초콜릿 막대 하나, 손편지 한 장, “고마워요”라는 짧은 인사 한마디면 충분하니까요.
오늘도 그런 마음으로, 나에게 작은 친절을 나눠준 모든 사람들을 떠올리며 — 나 역시 그런 사람이 되고 싶어요.
